Langlade is exceptionally well placed for sampling activities and visiting the places of interest in Languedoc.
There are three 18 hole golf courses within 25km of Langlade.
South :
The mainly sand and dune Mediterranean beaches are under 40 minutes away. The coast offers opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, sailing, diving, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Of course, you can just people watch, too.
The Camargue is a bird watchers paradise including the only area in Europe where pink flamingos breed.
North :
The Cevennes hills offer more birdwatching opportunities including golden eagles. They are also popular for walking, rock climbing, kayaking & swimming in the rivers that descend to the coast.
West :
The whole area is populated with vineyards and olive groves. There are many opportunities for wine (and olive) tasting.
There are roman remains at frequent intervals along the Via Domitia (a roman road stretching from Italy to Spain).
Further afield, it is possible to take a day trip to Costa Brava , Dali museum, Empuria Brava and other attractions.
Equally, Andorra is a tax free enclave on the French / Spanish border.
East :
To the East lies the legendary tourist attractions of Provence, Cote d'Azur and Italy.
History :
The area has a long history. Etruscan, Phoenician, Greek, Roman and medieval remains are common.
There are interesting local historical sites in : Nimes, Arles, Lattes, Aigues Mortes, Beaucaire, Lodeve, Pezenas, Sommieres, Uzes, Pont du Gard, Lunel, Ambrussum.
Gastronomy :
The area has few well known dishes. However, the area has plentiful supplies of fish, shellfish, goat and sheep milk (roquefort cheese is made in the upper Cevennes), fruit, vegetables and olives.
Local restaurants use local products to provide exceptionally good food at reasonable prices.
Discovering local wines is also a popular pastime. The wines vary from aromatic white viogniers, to rich oak matured reds, not forgetting the sweet red and white dessert wines originally planted by the romans.
Markets :
Every town and medium size village has at least one market per week. Favourite local markets are Sommieres (Saturday) and Calvisson (Sunday).
Fetes :
Villages hold local fetes from March to October. Activities include street theatre, fetes votives (village bull running) and celebrating Easter, Bastille day, Whit, and even asparagus.
Other :
The area has always attracted artists. There are many exhibitions during the summer.
Many prefer to sit in the shade, rest and sample local restaurants at night.
